The Journey Begins

Caleb21 (4)I sat in the interview for my current job composed from the table up but with sweaty hands and shaking legs underneath the table. Many questions ran through my mind.

“Was that a good answer?”

“Do they like me?”

“Can I actually do this job if I’m hired?”

“Am I good enough?”

The interview went well, but one question threw me off a little.

“What is something you’ve learned recently?” my interviewer asked.

I blinked a few times, sat up a little straighter and opened my mouth unsure of what would come out.

“Plans change,” I said.

I went on to say that people like myself make life plans not expecting for them to change. Our five year plans, dream jobs and more are perfectly planned, but that doesn’t always play out. Plans change, but that can lead to a greater destination.

In the moment, I was happy to have said something that made sense. It wasn’t until after the interview that I reflected on what I said. My answer depicted my situation at the time.

The perfect picture of what life after college looked like had smeared, which left my emotions all over the place. How did the person who always seemed to have it all together be in a place full of uncertainty?

I’ve come to realize that uncertainty isn’t a bad thing, and I’m not the first and won’t be the last person to feel that way. A lot of my recent conversations have proven that. People just like myself who made plans that didn’t go the way they expected.

These conversations have usually ended in the person saying that they’re grateful for their plans not working because their life is better than they imagined.

This blog is called “The Journey” because that’s what we’re on. We’re all on a journey that looks different from everyone around us and has the ability to change at any moment. Our journeys and stories are what others need to be reminded that they’re not alone and that they can make it.

I hope that my story along with many others inspire you along your journey.

You are a winner already!!
