Neale Donald Walsch said it best. “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.”
I had a moment to myself last year where I said, “Caleb, you have to get out more.” It’s easy for me to admit that I’m a creature of habit. I love a good ole fashioned routine.
Wake up…work…gym…dinner…read/write…bed…repeat.
Now that I look back, that has been my life for years. It’s easy to make to-do-lists and do what I have to do to get those tasks done.
Where’s the fun?
I mentioned in my Caleb In The City post that I had a lot of great experiences in 2018. Some of my experiences may seem simple to some, but they symbolized milestones to me.
The first major thing that took me outside my box was going to a Janelle Monáe concert with my friends Denise and Megan. When Denise first told me about the concert I thought, “This might be a bit much for me.” The music didn’t make me nervous because I love Janelle.
It was the fact that I didn’t know what to expect, and I had never done anything like that before. That feeling stuck with me up until the concert started.
Long story somewhat short, I had a blast and being there with friends made it even better. Plus, Janelle was AMAZING!

Megan (left) and Denise (right). None of us got a group photo that night, so we thought this would suffice.
I now realize that I put myself in a box and constantly made the excuse that I was “too busy” or “too tired” to do anything that might seem fun. This experience taught me that it’s fine to break out of my normal routine and live a little.
It also reminded me of the importance of the people I center myself around. We should aim to have friends who challenge us to strive for greatness and do something different every now and again.
I am glad you were able to go to a Janelle Monáe concert. She is an outstanding artists. I hope to possible catch one of her concerts in the Fall when I have a break with school.

I love this Caleb! I’ve challenged myself to get out and experience some new things too. This just encourages me to hurry up and do it!😉
