Stepping out is scary.
Whether it’s starting a new career or side hustle or moving to pursue a dream, it’s nerve wracking to risk it all.
I saw a story on “Good Morning America” a few weeks ago about Briana Owens, an entrepreneur who quit her full-time job to pursue her passion.
Briana opened Spiked Spin in Brooklyn in 2016 to bring more diversity to the fitness industy. She officially left her corporate job last month to give Spiked Spin her complete attention.
She posted about her final day on Instagram and said, “This is the scariest thing I’ve ever done but I feel braver than ever!! I am grateful and excited for the legacy we are creating. I’m ready!”
Her decision makes me picture a kid jumping into the deep end of a pool for the first time. Although he/she may know how to swim, it still takes courage to take on a challenge not knowing what will happen once they’re under (obviously hoping to rise to the top).
I’ve met people with similar stories who had a passion and decided to go for it unsure of the end result but willing to take a chance.
They remind me of the powerful words Bishop T.D. Jakes spoke at “Oprah’s Lifeclass.” Someone asked about how to move past fear, and he said, “Feel the fear and do it anyway.”
Powerful, right?!
Bishop Jakes went on to say no one is exempt from having fears, even the people we admire. It’s the decision to keep moving in spite of fear that births dreams.
A step in birthing my passion was starting this blog. For you, maybe it’s enrolling in a class, training for a certification or drafting a business plan.
Whatever it is, I hope we have the courage to jump into the deep end (a.k.a. our passion(s)) confident that we won’t only rise to the top but be unafraid to dive in from higher heights.
